From your mandatory issuing date, an invoice between businesses must go through an approved platform: this file is for use before that date, or to understand the format.

The template above is a complete e-invoice in Factur-X format, issued by a fictitious business, Atelier Exemple, to a fictitious customer. It includes every mandatory mention of an invoice between businesses, including the reform’s four new mentions: the customer’s SIREN, the delivery address if different, the category of the transaction (goods, services or both) and any option to pay VAT on invoicing. The SIREN, VAT and IBAN numbers are invented but built with valid check digits, so that the file passes format checks. The PDF you get holds the factur-x.xml file with the EN 16931 profile, which you can extract and read to see how each mention is coded. Nothing is sent to a server: your browser builds the file. To adapt it, simply replace the seller, customer and line data, then download again.
What the template contains
The sample invoice follows article 242 nonies A of annex II to the tax code, which lists the mandatory mentions, and the Factur-X specification for the file structure. The table matches each mention with where it appears in the XML.
| Mention | In the template | In the XML |
|---|---|---|
| Number and date | F-2026-0042, 25 October 2026 | ExchangedDocument |
| Seller and SIREN | Atelier Exemple, 123 456 782 | SellerTradeParty |
| Customer and SIREN (new mention) | Client Démo SAS, 987 654 324 | BuyerTradeParty |
| Delivery address (new mention) | If different | ShipToTradeParty |
| Transaction category (new mention) | Services, goods or both | Invoice note |
| Option to pay VAT on invoicing (new mention) | If you took it | Note and due date code |
| Lines, VAT, totals | Design and printing, 20% rate | IncludedSupplyChainTradeLineItem, ApplicableTradeTax |
The new mentions in practice
The service-public.fr page on mentions sets out the classic mentions, to which the reform adds four. In the template, each has its switch: tick delivery elsewhere or the option to pay VAT on invoicing, and the PDF and the XML change together. The list of mentions checks them one by one.

Adapting the template to your case
Three settings cover most situations. Under the VAT exemption, choose VAT not applicable: the line goes to zero and the article 293 B note appears. For a sale of goods, change the transaction category. For several VAT rates, add one line per rate: totals are recomputed per rate, as the standard requires. Finally, check your customer’s SIREN with the SIREN check, because one wrong digit is enough for a platform to reject an invoice.
What the template does not do
The template produces a file, it does not send it. It replaces neither your approved platform nor your accounting software, and it keeps no copy of your invoices: save each downloaded file in your own archive. To understand the format’s structure before you start, the Factur-X page describes the profiles and common pitfalls, and the specification version used is 1.09.2.
Testing before invoicing for real
The template also works as a test bench. Send it to your accountant or your future provider to check that their tool reads the file and takes over its data without retyping. Submit it to a platform’s test area, if it offers one, to see how it displays an invoice received. These trials take a few minutes and avoid discovering a problem on the day issuing becomes mandatory.
Keep in mind that the fictitious numbers only pass format checks: a real platform will refuse to route an invoice to a SIREN that matches no registered business, which is exactly what you would expect from a test.
