This creator produces an invoice in the Factur-X format: a readable PDF that complies with the PDF/A-3 standard and carries an XML file named factur-x.xml, in CII syntax and the EN 16931 profile. Factur-X is one of the three formats every approved platform must accept under the order of 27 July 2026, alongside UBL and plain CII. The creator includes the four new mandatory mentions: customer SIREN, delivery address if different, type of transaction and the VAT-on-invoicing option. It recalculates totals and VAT line by line, handles the VAT basic exemption with the exemption note, and blocks the download while a required field is missing or a SIREN is invalid. The file is generated on your computer: no account, no upload, no storage. Mind the legal limit: from your mandatory issuing date, September 2026 or September 2027 depending on your size, an invoice between businesses must go through an approved platform, however perfect the file.

What the file contains

A Factur-X is one file for two readers. People see an ordinary PDF with your details, the lines and the totals. Machines read the factur-x.xml file embedded in the PDF, which carries the same data in the UN CII syntax and the EN 16931 profile, the European model of the e-invoice. The PDF follows the PDF/A-3 standard, which guarantees identical display in ten years and allows attachments. The FNFE-MPE Factur-X specification describes this package, in version 1.09.2 published on 4 August 2026.

Before and after your issuing date

Article 289 bis of the French tax code does not only require a format: it requires the invoice to be issued and received through an approved platform. Until your date arrives, the file from this creator is an invoice like any other, sent by whatever means you agree with your customer. After 1 September 2027 for an SME or micro-enterprise, it is no longer enough: you upload the invoice to your platform, which accepts this format among those in the base set fixed by the order of 27 July 2026.

Checks made before download

The button stays grey while the seller’s name, address and SIREN, the customer’s, the invoice number and date, a description per line and, if you charge VAT, your EU VAT number are missing; the VAT number is suggested from the SIREN. The SIREN is checked against its check digit. Files produced by this creator are tested with an open-source Factur-X validator, as explained on the Method page. For a ready-made model to study, see the annotated Factur-X example; for the mentions, the checklist.

Keeping track of your invoices

The creator keeps nothing: once the page is closed, the invoice only exists in the downloaded file. Store each PDF in a folder per year and do not edit it again, because the original file, XML included, is what counts. Number your invoices in one continuous sequence, with no gaps or duplicates, as the rules require. To correct a mistake, issue a credit note and then a new invoice rather than touching up the file already sent.

Common questions

Is a Factur-X created here a valid e-invoice?

The file follows the Factur-X format in the EN 16931 profile, which approved platforms accept. But an e-invoice in the sense of the reform is an invoice transmitted through an approved platform. Before your mandatory issuing date, you can send this file to a customer who accepts it. Afterwards, you upload it to your platform, which handles the transmission.

Is my invoice data sent anywhere?

No. The PDF and the XML are built by your browser with a library that runs on your computer. The fonts and the colour profile come from this site, but no invoice information leaves the page. You can check by cutting your connection after the page has loaded: the creator still works.

How do I invoice under the VAT basic exemption with this creator?

Pick Exempt in the VAT choice. Lines switch to zero per cent, the VAT category becomes exempt and the note TVA non applicable, article 293 B du CGI, is added to the PDF and the XML. Your SIREN then serves as the tax identifier, since you may not have an EU VAT number.

Can I create invoices in bulk with this tool?

The tool is built for one invoice at a time: a sole trader, a VAT-registered association or a small business issuing a few a month. For dozens of invoices, invoicing software connected to an approved platform will be more efficient. The creator remains useful to understand what a Factur-X contains and to test a template.
